The Master - Official Trailer

Here's the first official trailer (after the two insanely great teasers) of The Master, from Paul Thomas Anderson.

This looks brilliant, but I can't help feel that this full trailer doesn't live up to the first teaser. That individual scene with a confused and almost naive Joaquin Phoenix being interviewed/interrogated was so visceral, generating so much mood with so little, was just breathtaking. It was always going to be hard to live up to that.

A Brief History of John Baldessari

Love this mini-doc on John Baldessari, voiced by Tom Waits (who since hearing this - can't get Heath Ledger's Joker performance out of my head when hearing Tom Waits talk).

I really enjoy these kind of doc's which squish 30 minutes of info into 5 minutes, and giving us way more insight into a person's character than a dreary talking head. It's like stepping into their brain for a moment.

The Master

I think after the film about the Bat, 'The Master' has to be the film I'm mostly looking forward to this year. 'There Will Be Blood' was my favourite film in recent time, and Paul Thomas Anderson looks to have created another great film with that same menacing, dark and dramatic tone, (which I love). The music as well, by Jonny Greenwood, takes me back to those amazing shots of Day-Lewis maniacally planning his next move.

Looks like Joaquin got his shit together after his 'rap career' or the experiment for 'I'm Still Here' - I can already see him collecting awards for this performance. Looks to be a total transformation and he's even doing that thing where not only is his accent different, but the whole way he's forming speech with his mouth is transformed - I think he's giving his all for this role and will be great to see him tussle with Philip Seymour Hoffman too.

The Animals of the Eastern Zodiac

I saw this great animation, from Minji Aye Hong, on Motionographer the other day and showed it to the guys at Across the Pond for our weekly creative meeting. It's really growing on me, has a beautiful design and animation treatment and a welcome dose of good humour. The music just works so well with it too - love the "wwwdot" line....

Anyway, enough from me - enjoy!
